FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The San Diego Owner’s Guide

If your FAAC gate or opener has a broken weld, a cracked hinge mount, or a snapped bracket, we stock and fabricate FAAC-compatible replacement parts here in San Diego and install them in a single visit most of the time. Typical installed pricing for FAAC welding and fabrication work in San Diego runs $220 to $480 depending on the component, and we carry common FAAC weld-in brackets, hinge assemblies, and fabricated mounting plates on our truck. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: the gate sags, drags, or jams halfway, and a closer look reveals a fatigue crack right where the steel was stressed most.

We’re an independent San Diego gate repair company, not affiliated with FAAC, which means we have no reason to push one brand of parts over another. We match what your gate actually needs.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

FAAC hydraulic and electromechanical operators have been installed across San Diego for decades, and the welding and fabrication needs vary by series. The FAAC 400 series (often found on residential swing gates in neighborhoods like Point Loma, Rancho Peñasquitos, and La Jolla) uses bolt-on brackets and pivot plates that can eventually crack at the weld points. The FAAC 750, 760, and S800 series slide gate operators frequently need fabricated post mounts or reinforcing plates when the original anchor points fatigue. The FAAC C720 and C721 commercial models see the heaviest wear, especially on multi-tenant properties or gates that cycle hundreds of times a day.

Identifying what you need is usually straightforward: there’s a model plate on the operator housing or motor casing with the series number. If that plate is missing (which happens after San Diego’s salt air and sun have done their work), we measure the mounting bolt spread, the bracket thickness, and the gate leaf weight to identify what fits. For FAAC-specific components, we generally recommend OEM parts when the bracket interfaces directly with the operator. For non-structural bracketry and reinforcing plates where a fabricated equivalent is actually stronger, we’ll quote both options. No decision gets made without your approval on the price.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • Gate sags or scrapes the ground at the free end. This usually means a weld at the hinge or the operator mounting bracket has started to tear. The gate is cantilevered, so every millimeter of sag translates into more stress at the next weld down the line.
  • The gate shudders or jerks mid-travel. When a fabricated bracket or mount is cracked, the operator pushes against a surface that flexes instead of holding firm. The motion becomes uneven and the motor works harder, which shortens its life too.
  • You can see light through a crack or a gap at a weld joint. Weld failures in San Diego often start small, at a stress riser, then propagate. What looks like a harmless seam can turn into a clean break within weeks.
  • Fastener holes are elongated or oval-shaped. When bolts work loose because the surrounding steel has thinned or cracked, the constant cycling hammers the holes wider. Tightening the bolts again doesn’t fix the underlying fatigue.
  • The operator sounds fine but the gate doesn’t move. That usually means the drive linkage or a fabricated arm between the operator and gate leaf has failed completely, leaving the motor spinning against nothing.

Each of these is repairable. The key is catching them before the gate drops entirely, because a fallen gate in San Diego’s coastal areas can pull wiring, damage the operator, and turn a $300 weld repair into a $900 operator replacement.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most FAAC welding and fabrication jobs in San Diego land between $220 and $480 installed. That includes the fabricated or OEM part, the on-site labor, and any grinding, fitting, or touch-up coating needed to match the existing metal. A simple weld-in bracket replacement on a FAAC 400 series swing gate tends toward the low end of that range. A cracked slide gate post mount that requires cutting out the old steel, fabricating a heavier plate, and re-anchoring it runs toward the higher end. If the job also needs a new limit switch or leaf adjustment, we fold that into the same visit.

Before any work starts, you get a written price that itemizes the part and the labor separately. That’s not optional at Calder Gate Repair. The number on the invoice is the number we agreed to. Every repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld fails or the part we fabricated doesn’t hold within 365 days, we return and fix it at no charge. No fine print beyond that.

DIY or Call Us?

If you have a welder, you already know the risks here, and you probably also know whether your FAAC bracket is worth saving. For everyone else, the honest split is this: you can safely check for loose bolts, visible cracks, and gate sag, but actual welding on an installed gate is not a beginner task. You’re working with a cantilevered load, often with the operator still wired to line voltage, and a bad weld on a gate that weighs 400 pounds is a real hazard. The other problem we see in San Diego is well-meaning DIY bead work that fixes the visible crack but doesn’t address the fatigue point underneath, so the new weld tears next to the old one within a few months.

“Show you the part, write you the price, fix it right the first time.” That’s how we run every FAAC welding call. If the gate is still standing but sounding rough, call us at (619) 541-7844 and we’ll take a look.
